I bought a new gateway 510 with MCE and when I tried to install my webcam
(Kokak 325) it came back with non-compatible with this version of XP. I went
to Kokak website and made sure I had the latest XP driver but still would not
work. I don't mind buying another webcam but want to make sure it works well
with MCE. Any suggestions on a good quality webcam that works with MCE?

Brentromero,
Thanks for the help. I will check on the 4000 you note. When you say like
a champ, low light works good, does it have zoom, etc. Any info is
appreciated.

I have a QuickCam 5000 which worked fine with XP sp2 but which is not
recognised properly under MCE - and re-installing the driver crashes the
machine to bluescreen. Did you use the supplied driver for your 4000? I
cannot imagine that if the 4000 works it is impossible to get the 5000 to
work to (despite Logitech dismissing my enquiry, saying simply that my device
is 'incompatable with MCE').

Thinking about it, I'm increasingly convinced the tech support woman at
Logitech is talking rubbish - the core of MCE is simply ordinary XP Pro; why
shouldn't the webcam work fine? After the weekend I'm going to try tech
support for an XP Pro machine and see if I get any further

It should work (although I've never installed one myself.)

Where does it say that it's not compatible? During the install it may say
that the drive is "unsigned", but you should have the option to continue the
installation. I believe that this option can be disabled in the Local
Security Settings applet.

Start->Administrative Tools->Local Security Policy. On the left side, look
under Local Policies for Security Options. Once you click that you'll get a
bunch of options on the right. You want to find "Devices: Unsigned driver
installation behavior" and set it to "Warn but allow".

I would think the 5000 would work, but have not tried one. I did use the
software that came with my 5000 and it worked great. Something about MCE is
different, not sure what but for sure does not work like XP Pro. Even my old
Kodiak worked with it.

Hi All -

I am looking to buy a webcam and I had my eye on the logitech 5000 but I
just bought a new dell with media center on it.

The logitech people also told me that they were "looking into the problem".
This problem has been around for awhile.

Have any of you figured a way around it?

I suggest you go with the 4000 instead of the 5000. The 4000 works great
from everyone I have talked to and the 5000 has problems for some reason.
