Hi,
I answered this question a few days ago in another thread. Here is a copy
of my reply:
If the DVD is not copy protected, use Windows Explorer to create a target
directory then drag the contents of the DVD into it. The two main folders to
copy are VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. There may be other folders for cover art,
etc.
You can also use a program such as 1ClickDVD to strip the extras and
compress the files to save size.
If the DVD is copy protected, check out SlySoft.com for a program AnyDVD.
This runs in the background along with either of the above.
Once the DVD is copied, you can either include the folder holding all your
DVD's in My Videos or in My DVD's.

MikeM, When I put a non copy protected DVD in I see where it is in my E
drive. When I click on it, it opens the 2 folders you speak of. VIDEO_TS AND
AUDIO_TS.
What I dont understand is how do I use Windows Explorer to create a target?
Im useing Vista. I just bought this laptop in April and have been trying all
this time to rip some teaching DVD so I can burn then and share with my
fellowship. I was told that I could do that on this PC. And here is what it
says on the side. compact disk rewritable/& DVD R/RW & RW DVD-R-DL. Im a
green horn so if there is any way that you could really walk me through this
it would be such a blessing.

A target is just a fancy way of saying a folder to copy to. Can't you just
copy the whole thing with DVD maker?

Tom, I could if I knew how. What I don’t know is how to get the DVD to rip
or copy. At times im sitting in tears with the whole thing. If you ever have
the time to walk me through this, it would be such a relief. I would be
willing to do it over the phone if that would be easer.

sorry I travel for a living. Anyway, open explorer, create a holding folder.
Copy DVD contents to holding folder. Open DVD maker, add files from holding
folder to project and select burn. Of course make sure to replace the dvd in
the drive with a fresh one.

I have the same problem, and while extremely helpful for Shannon to write,
it's way over my head ... this is why my son laughs when I don't buy Apple.
