We use LCS 2005 internally, and Messenger 5.1 clients. The SIP connection to
LCS works perfectly, but any connection to the .NET messenger service logs
out every few minutes. You can be in the middle of an IM session, and it
appears to be connected, but you start to type, and you then get a message
you can't send since you are not logged in. Even if you have the main
Messenger window open, it gives no hint you are logged out until you try
something.

I installed Windows Live Messenger 8, and it works perfectly, but if I use
Windows Messenger 5.1 it continues to log out every few minutes. I ran
monitors to various messenger systems that do a TCP port 80 connection every
10 seconds and no failures, and our T1 is always below 40% use during these
logouts. So, the issue appears to be specific to the 5.1 client.

SBPD, You aren't alone. It has been happening exactly like that to me
running vers 4.7 and I know of another guy with the same complaint
using 4.7 as well, plus someone posted the same complaint here about
vers 5.1 a week or so ago. None of us as rec'd a reply from the gurus
and I think it is just another MS snafu. It is nice to know that the
new prog works though, but I see no reason to change to it if I don't
have to.
