Post subject: trying to use my dvd/cd burner

I have a HP Pavilion a527x computer. It came with RecordNow burning program. I've used it many times with no problem.
I have a HP dvd-writer/CD-writer combo.

Today, I couldn't get it to burn anything. Finally I got it workin but

1) it will work if you want to use a DVD-RW disk.
2) it won't work if you use DVD-R disk
3) the writer will not show up at all if I use my Roxio easy CD DVD burning program.

Someone told me that you have to format DVD-R disks in order to use them. If so, how do you do it.

I've gone to HP and they told me after trying many different things that the drive was no good any more.

Any help out there Very Happy

You only format CD/dVDs if you want to use InCD or some other kind of drag-n-drop softwaren not for normal burning.

HP may be right about your drive.
