Post subject: cd drive?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>hardware (more info?)

so when i put a cd into the drive half of the time it doesnt spin or read
it....and the other half it does...so i kno it cant be the lazer thats
busted...its a cd/dvd player...and i dont think that its switching back and
forth between the two when needed...is there anythin i can do to help that?

With the computer turned off and unplugged, reseat the drive's ribbon
cable and power supply connector. If that doesn't help, swap the drive
out with a known-working CD/DVD-ROM drive. If the issues go away, throw
the original drive out. If that doesn't work, your power supply may be
going and should be replaced. As always with troubleshooting, make one
change at a time and test after each change.
