I personally think you missed the best - F-Secure is the A/V I use due
to rapid updates and solid program function. I won't use
Norton/Symantec because of the problems I have had with it, and many of
the others don't take as pro-active an approach as does F-Secure, in
the information I have seen.

Hope this helps

Pedro...MS has recently made available Windows Live OneCare to the public. I
have been using the Beta version for over a year and I love it. It does
automatic performance tune-ups based on the dates and time you select,
defrags...etc, prompts for backups which you can use to restore system,
provides Firewall in addition to Antivirus and spyware protection.

Questions like this get opinions, not answers. And if enough people answer,
you'll find someone to prefer every one of the choices. That leaves you back
where you started.

That said, I'll give you my opinion: I use and like Avast.

After a bit of research, I am not renewing my Mcaffee subscription when it is
up. I am moving to Avast.

I have used AGV free for the past 2 years and have never had a virus or
problem with the software. I did however manage to get a virus with
Symantec Antivirus. Mcaffe I have on my PC at work and I personally don't
like the interface.

You use a program that is a known big time spammer? And you pay them for
it too? And, even more absurd, you expect Panda to protect your computer?

I use SAV Corporate obtained via a license from my empoyer and it's kept me
safe for years. Easy to install and use. Upgrades itself weekly and
doesn't expire annually like the retail version. Works for me.

The "best" depends on what month and year it is, amount of RAM, apps opened,
and the user's preferences and tolerance for AV overhead in a slower
machine, and its affect on performance whether the machine is fast or slow
to begin with. The worst by overhead and that last point is probably Panda,
followed by McAfee.
