Post subject: Xbox360 extender and Live TV
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>mediacenter (more info?)

In the UK TV broadcasts are in PAL 50hz, however in HD mode the xbox360 will
only output in 720p@60hz this means that the quality of Live TV through my
Hauppage Nova-T card is pretty poor as the 360 upscales it from 50hz to 60hz.
I've done some testing with the HD cable switched back to standard def and
switching standard 575p signals from 60hz to 50hz solves many of the problems.

So my question is can the Xbox360 be made to output video at 720p@50 instead
of 720p@60hz? I can understand that maybe this can't be supported for games
but can it be supported for media centre?

I've asked this question already without answer in several place and tried
phoning Xbox supportg. If this is a limitation of the 360 hardware it would
appear to limit it's use as an extender in PAL regions?

Thanks for your help.

Looks like no one has got any ideas on this, so does anyone know how I can
make MS aware of the problem? I realise I won't get any direct support
without using my MSDN substriction, which would be wrong since my MSDN
subscription is for work use?

The xbox support phone line was useless for tis type of question, and I see
this as a real issue.

Thanks

The Xbox team is aware of this request (50 Hz output modes for HD
resolutions) and is considering it for inclusion in a future dashboard
update.

That's great news thanks Todd, thought I couldn't be the only one with the
problem, it's pretty much the only thing stopping me buying more extenders,
never thought I'd use MCE as much as I have.

Well I got all excited today when I saw that the X360 dashboard update
included 50Hz modes for HDTV modes, only to find this is only when playing
DVD's and Media Centre still runs in 60Hz mode. Anyone know if there is a way
to force media centre into 50Hz mode>

Cheers

todd,

has there been any progress on this? i'm a new xbox 360 owner, and i'm
having these issues as well. in fact, many PAL owners are having the same
issues (see the links i have provided below). surely this is something which
can be very easily fixed!
