Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>hardware (more info?)

Hi all

The Manual for the pertaining Intel software says:
"Some Intel chipset platforms already are supported by Windows XP so it may
not be necessary to use the INF files provided by this software to update
Windows XP."

Question: Does this mean that the chipset of a 3 years old mainboard (MSI
865PE Neo2-LS) may be automatically updated by Windows Update? Where to check
and verify? Or, if not, what does this mean?

(I need to update Bios and possibly chipset because of difficulties with USB
connecting to mp3 players)

TIA - flowe

Sorry, posted already in Windows Update NG

For the 875/865 chipset, you need to go back to 12/05 for an installation, the
current updated installations run,but the 2 seconds that they do,thier not
installing, the chipset installation utility takes 12-18 seconds...
