I just got a new Dell laptop with Windows XP Professional installed on it. I
was told it also has Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition. I cannot find it
anywhere. I assume these are two different systems and you can have one or
another, but not both. Is this correct?

XP Pro is an OS. XP Media Center is an OS. You will only have one.

Right click on My Computer, choose Properties, and read the OS name.

Nevertheless, it cannot be obtained alone as an extension or patch. You have
to get the whole enchilada. Period. And it cannot be separated from its
components.

Using your logic, you could say that Windows Server 2003 is nothing but an
extension of Windows XP. I guess so...
