Post subject: Can't Write CD-RW
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>hardware (more info?)

Hi!

My laptop was okay several months ago. I have DVD-+RW Drive built in. It can
wrote all of them without problem.
But now, there is a problem:
I can't write CD-RW. (It's not about speed, because I set my speed at 4x)
I use both roxio and built in Windows XP burning program to burn the CD-RW

First thing first, CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVDRWs are OK.
but when it come to cd-rw, I have to insert cd-r first, then swap it with
cd-rw (otherwise, the drive can't detect cd-rw). I am able to write, but when
I re-insert the disc, it just said Free Space: 702MB
I saw the disc, and there's no trace that the CD has been written (although
with CD-R there is mark, and the disc completely working)
I tried various file types: mp3, ISO, regular file

Thanks in advance (unfortunately about CD/DVD drive, I am not a specialist
at all)

The built-in CD burning "tools" is supposed to not make any difference between
CD-R and CD-RW media. However, there have been updates to XP since it was
originally release and one was for CD burning I believe. How "up to date" is
your XP?

I got the latest. Updated Yesterday. Updates does not solve the problem.
Before my drive acting like this, I noticed that I can't burn copy protected
musics to CD-RW properly (there always errors - sound not perfect, unable to
close the disc, etc), but with CD-R, it is completely okay.
