I am new using PC's. I just loaded my 3 1/2 floppy and then clicked on
computer, then the floppy file then one of the files. A pop-up appeared,
"Can not load word for windows 6.0 files." How then do I use or read those
word pad files? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the name of the file you clicked on (particularly the extension--the
last three characters, after the dot)? If you can't see the extension, go to
Tools | Folder Options, and uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file
types."

You say "those word pad files." How do you know they are Wordpad files? Did
you create them or did you get them from someone else?

XP already has Word Pad...

just right click on the file and go to "open with"

then select Word Pad

It seems from your pop-up that the files on the floppy are created by a very
old version of Word. Word 6.0 came out in 1994. What program is trying to
open the files?
What is the source of the files?
What is the complete name of one of the files, including the three letters
after the period?
What version of Word do you have, and did you install the ability to convert
older version Word files?

The error says "cannont load Word 6.0 files i.e. Microsoft Word for Windows
(not Wordpad). They are not wordpad files, they are MS Word files.

Launch word pad and open the file (File > Open), or right click the file >
Open With.... and select Wordpad.

Otherwise they may not be accessible. Have you tried opening them in
Microsoft Word? The files may be too big for Wordpad, since it has a limit
of the files size that it can open.

Word 6 I think was a.k.a MS Word for Windows 95? or even earlier (the last
version of Word for Windows 3.1 before Win95 came out).

Its is a .Doc or .Rtf file being that his computer is new im guessing
since you say your new to them and you prolly have
Windows XP SP2, if so Microsoft Disabled viewing of those files the
6.0 wich is weird because i came across this problem
tring to view Windows 98 files and windows XP word pad is a version
less them 6.0 and the file i was opening were Win98
Documents. But if you search microsofts site you can find the fix but
since you new i'dd download a non-Microsoft
Reader wich would be much more easy to do.

hope that information helps you a little.
