Post subject: Windows msngr
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>messenger (more info?)

I posted this to XP General before I realized there was a specific msmgs group.
I cannot remove MS Messenger [msmsgs] from my System startup. I never use
it so it’s just taking space and slowing me down. When I open Startup
[Run/MSconfig/Startup] and uncheck the msmsgs box I get an error message that
says “An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a
service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the
specified changes.” Since I’m the only person on this machine there’s only
one user defined [me] and there is no log on.. I am the designated
Administrator.

How do I get past this “Access Denied or turn it off?” I use Outlook
[e-mail] and Outlook Express [Newsgroups] and don’t know how they will be
affected but I sure would like to get that little Windows Messenger icon out
of my desktop icon bar. Anybody know what I’m talking about? Thanks, Denzil.
