Windows XP Won't Shut Down

Running XP Home SP2. Have not added any new software in some time, but recently I have been unable to shut down Windows. It always ends up restarting.

I have to try and shut the system down by the rocker switch in the back, or hoding down the powerbutton until it shuts down ~ which is not the most desireable way to do it.

What could have caused this problem and how do I fix it?

Right-clik My Computer, choose Properties then Advanced. Clik Settings under Startup and Recovery, and uncheck Automatically Restart under System Failure.

If something errors out before it shuts down, it will try to restart, this way you should get an error message if this is the case.

You could also run a complete anti-virus scan and Ad-aware to make sure you don't have unwanted visitors.
