When launching Windows Defender, I receive the following message
"Application failed to install 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender
service to stop"
What's Wrong?
Should I scan remotely the whole computer with an anti-virus? to get away of
any local malfunction)
Thanks

Hey, I'm just jumping in here because I see no other way to pose a question.
(I'm new at this...where is the link to pose your own question instead of
responding to another's question? )

Now for my real question: I use Spybot, ad-aware, and zone alarm firewall.
I have windows service pack 2 for XP. Will Windows Defender (Beta 2) work
for me in this environment (I'm worried about any possible conflict with my
non windows firewall; also wondering if Defender has anything to offer that
my other anti spys do not have. THanks for any direction you can give.

I have been battling this 0x800106ba error message for a month now. I
have both windows 2K and XP machines that I update. I think I have
discovered the problem! I rebuilt a computer from scratch (no imaging)
and loaded nothing but the operating system (2000) and SP4 - I did the
mandatory updates to MSIE 6.1, etc - just to make sure there wasn't
something else preventing the install. Defender still failed to load
with the above error message. I found a copy of Defender from February
'06 and loaded that one. It loaded instantly and without error. I
still had to get around the failure to update problem, but that has
already been discussed in other messages. I think the newest version
on MS's site and elsewhere is broken, because the copy I used from
February with Revision number {DDAB37BD-C2AE-490A-9201-DCF0CDB2164A}
doesn't cause the problem. Hope this can help everyone.
