Post subject: Windows Security Center problem
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>security_admin (more info?)

hello,
I have WinXP SP 2 installed on my System, Whenever I start the
WSCSVC service on my system, the following error occurs

Could not Start the Security Center service on Local Computer

Error 123: the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

I have also Spybot installed on my system , in which some Windows
Security Center Alert is displayed in red from Registry, which I may have
accidently deleted. After which this problem occurred.
The Exact Alerts are

Windows Security Center.AntiVirusDisableNotify - settings:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MICROSOFT\SECURITY
CENTER\ANTIVIRUSDISABLENOTIFY!=DWORD:0
AS WELL AS

Windows Security Center.FirewallDisableNotify - settings:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SECURITY
CENTER\FirewallDISABLENOTIFY!=DWORD:0

After Fixing these alerts the Windows Security Center Service Fails to Start
.. Please Help Me.
Thank you

Hey anoop !!! This explains everything . You are fine and no need to worry
about.
Smile

Norton is blocking and stopping your Security Center because Norton 2006
intergrates its own Security Center and that's why it doesn't allow you to
use the built-in WSC . Norton's Security Center is on your Start line

I have just upgraded from NIS 2006 to 2007 (free upgrade by the way) .
My security center is also deactivated (...cant be started...) Panda_man's
answer clarified the "Why" for me. Thanks.

A word of caution: If you do upgrade from NIS 2006 to NIS 2007-it is a
somewhat hairy affair-long waits-multiple restarts-anddownload bars, which
never seem to end...
