Post subject: Win XP PRO SP2 EN

Rolling Eyes HI. First sorry if here it's not the appropriate local.
Just a question for some other opinions:
When I bought my system, it brought win xp pro sp2 en OEM version. As some people told me these OEMs versions didnt mak suplementary updates in microsoft update site but the criticals, I bought a sandard version os xp pro sp2, on line. All was going fine till Advantage Genuine cames out. Then it began reporting my windows having "illegal key". As I had got that version on line, I looked for the site, but...maybe impossible.
Ok. Now, I want insert my first and original OEM version key, whose CD, key, and seal of microsoft I have ! Problem my system dont let me insert the key. I have tryed all I know.. OOBE, ..telephone..bla..bla.. but after insert the key it doesnt anything neither accept it. I dont think format and reinstall OEM version again because I 'll loose many software I already haven't install CDs or files. Any ideas? Something I did wrong? Urgent help is welcome. Tks.
Regards.

Hello,

You actually should be able to download all of the updates for http://www.microsoft.com/ (Microsoft) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ (Windows) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/ (XP) as long as you have a legal license, whether it be an OEM or a Retail one.

If you visit Microsoft's anti-piracy web site at http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/ you will see several options explaining how to report suspect copies of Windows XP to Microsoft. Try using one of those to explain your situation and explain how you started with a legal license for an OEM version.

They should be able to help you change the Product ID Key for Windows XP back to your original licensed version, or you can try following the instructions http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328874/ (this) Microsoft Knowledge Base article titled "How to change the Volume Licensing product key on a computer that is running Windows XP SP1 and later versions of Windows XP" (KB328874).

Aryeh Goretsky
