Hello,
I have a Freecom DVB-T USB stick and have had no problems with at all it in
Media Center until build 5600.
I have all the correct drivers installed, and have tried fresh installs and
upgrades of builds 5600 and 5728. I have not recently installed any new
programs or hardware.
When starting MCE for the first time I do a complete set-up, and scan for tv
channels. It finds approx 40 channels which is correct, but when I try to
view them it says there is no signal, except for 1 channel which is 98%
jittery and totally un-watchable.
The USB stick is fine as I have tried it in a back-up pc running XP MCE 2005.
It seems as though on these latest builds the default signal strength has
been turned up???
Any help would be most appreciated. >> Stay informed about: Vista 5728 live TV Problems |

Were you able to run it in any Vista releases prior to 5600?
Have you checked to see if the tuner manafacturer released any new drivers
for RC1 (version 5600) as several other tuner manufacturers did?
Have you tried running WinUpdate to see if MS possibly has a newer tuner
driver available for RC1?

Hi JW, yes it worked fine in builds up to 5600, I have the latest drivers
from the manufacturers and theres no updates on Windows update.
I've had a good root through all the MCE keys in the registry but I can't
see any parameters that could cause this.

As far as I can tell here was definitly a change in a hardware protocol of
some sort in RC1 that prevented many drivers from working if they were not
coded in total accord with the MS specifications for Vista.which are not
totally the same as the ones for XP.

If you have 5728 - then you should post this to the private newgroups for
support.

I've done a fresh install of 5600 RC1 now, so my post is relevant in this
thread. I was merely stating that on an apparent later release (5728) the
problem was still occuring.
Is there no-one else having this same error?
Do any of the MS MVP's have any answers?
Is there anyone in the UK with the same equipment (Freecom DVB-T USB) who
has it working within Vista's MCE?
BTW 5728 was a shortlived public release (1 day)

I'm having similar issues Dave. Slightly different equipment here,
Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-T DVB-T cards. Same results thereabouts, scans and
finds all channels available in my area (UK 69 services), however several
channels display 'No TV signal' in both Vista 5728 and RC2 5744 which work
perfectly in Vista RC1 5600 and Windows XP MCE. Have reverted to using
Vista RC1 5600 as I couldn't find a solution for 5728 or RC2 5744 so would
be interested to know if you got it working.

Hi Maurice, I never got it working, but I found out what is causing the
problem. Vista MCE stores the channel frequencies 167mhz off of the correct
freq.
There are a few work arounds that work for your Nova-T I think, which
involve creating a few registry entries. See the Hauppauge forum and look in
the Vista forum.
I'm currently using RTM build 6000 and using Media Portal (with BDA drivers)
to watch TV, and it's working better than MCE has done on the last 5 or so
builds.
Regards
