When I click start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore I get an
error message - "System restore application has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienence." Then I send the error
report. This has been going on for some time now, but solution has been
presented. Data from the error report is as follows:
Error signature
AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00009826
Any ideas?

Question: When you did the system restore, do you lose all your document and
picture files too? In other words, does it just restore the programs to
original or everything? I spose I could just copy my important stuff to disc
and then restore it. Obviously, I'm a novice at this! thanks.

I'm not completely sure what you're asking here, but let me point out that
System Restore restores the operating system only, and does nothing for your
data. It is certainly not a substitute for a backup, but it is a very useful
feature, one that has gotten me and many others out of trouble many times.
It's a very easy quick way to revert your operating system to the condition
it was in a day or a few days ago, and that's all it's meant for.
