Post subject: Start Up Problem

I have Win.XP with lots of room on 2 (C,F) harddrives and lots of RAM. Each time I boot up, I get a window titled F:\ProgramFiles. I isolated the file that causing this problem (AdobeUpdate mana...F:\programfiles\adob..HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run) How can I delete this file. I think it is probably a left over from an earlier game that was not deleted completely. I already deleted Adobe programs, but the window is still there. Any help here? Crying or Very sad

Hello,

Try starting the System Configuration Utility (filename: MSCONFIG.EXE) and clicking on the Startup tab. Do you see an entry referencing this program? If so, de-select (un-check) it, then click on the Apply button to save the change and OK to commit it.

Shut down the system as you normally do and then power up.

Does the strange window still appear?

Aryeh,

Thanks for your quick response. I actually found the bad file by isolating each start up item under the Startup tab. Unchecking it does eliminate the problem page from appearing during boot-up. However, the Sys. Config. Util. window pops up in dianotic mode and wants me to return to normal settings, hence again the problem file appears. How can I remove it for good?

Jim

Hello,

Now that you have identified the entry responsible for the causing the errant window to open when the computer is started you allow the System Configuration Utility to return the system to normal settings and then navigate to the offending entry in the registry using the Registry Editor (filename: REGEDIT.EXE) and delete it from there.

The next time the system boots up the problem should no longer occur.
