Hi Werner,
I had the very same problem. What the devil are DVD files try this:
START-RUN-MSCONFIG-OK Then click on Startup look for any file that has
either the name of your DVD player or DVD in the name. Un check them
and restart your computer. The Microsoft Knowledge Base article is good
but, in many respects it is generic. I found that if I unchecked the
files to get the screen saver to work several of my games would not run.
