I ran the rollup 2 and the update. I now have a problem with error code 3.
when running the set up again MCE tells me that no tunner not installed or
not working. I tried uninstalling back to rollup 1 but MCE will not start.
With rollup 2 installed I can use most feature except live TV basically I get
the error no tuner. It was fine this morning before the update, so I assume
my tv tuner is there.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have gone wrong. Also how do I
install new tuner software. The device manager seems to think it is working
fine.

Try the following from a command prompt:
- C:\windows\Ehome\medctrro.exe /o RunOnce >nul
wait 2 minutes or until CPU/Processor activity in task manager is 0%
This should run through the script that media center uses on first boot
to install anbd register the components and services. After running,
check the file C:\windows\medctroc.Log for error messages at the time
you ran the above command. If there are no errors , hit the green
button and see if it works. >> Stay informed about: Rollup 2 Error 3 & no Tuner found?? |

Yup. I have an HP Media Center with the x600 Pro and after the update it
refuses to go to anything TV related. I have done everything to try to get
this to work.
The error I get is this:
From the Media Setup Wizard when it gets to setup of TV Tuner:
Critical Process Failure-
A Critical Media Center Process has failed. If the problem persists, please
restart your machine and try again, or contact Technical Support CODE: 3
Then from the Media Center Setup under TV Setup you get this message:
Tuner Not Found-
The Tuner Hardware is either malfunctioning or not installed. Please ensure
that both the tuner hardware and a valid tuner hardware driver are installed.
All other features seem to work for the media center, videos, pictures and
music are all working, I did not try DVD's however.
This is a nightmare, Where do we go from here?

As soon as I ran this a dialog popped up:
ngen.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeVersion could not be located in
the dynamic link library mscoree.dll
** also ngen.exe processes with 00 CPU/604K Mem usage load keep populating
In the time I wrote this I want from 5 entries to like 10.

Alan and dopher,
I am not a .net expert (java is my game) but my best guess would be
that based on the .dll listed (google says its Microsoft .NET Runtime
Execution Engine) that somehow the .net installation is messed up.
The medctrro.exe command should be able to execute without this kind of
error. The command I gave worked for my particular issues with rollup
2. You're have a basic problem of not even running ngen (which is a
..net utility that the media center installer needs to run).
As a final test, try running
"C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ngen.exe" from your
command prompt and see if it works. This will list the command line
options. If that works, try the /show parameter. This will at least
tell you if the ngen command can run. If it can't run, we can be more
positive that the .net install is somehow not in a good state.
Unfortunately I have no other suggestion except perhaps rolling back
the .net stuff and the rollup 2 and trying a reinstall and/or waiting
for a solution. >> Stay informed about: Rollup 2 Error 3 & no Tuner found?? |

First of all - THANK YOU for helping us. Heres whats up?
I did just what you said and immediatly got an error:
ngen.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeVersion could not be located in
the dynamic link library mscoree.dll
Ho do I "reinstall" this Net Framework?
Again that you sooo much for this time and effort.

Okay, removing all of the .net programs from the add/remove programs. Remove
all the roll up & update.
Re-install roll up 2 plus .net updates seems to have worked as far as error
code 3. I now have the ability to start the media center set up. which i am
woking on now.
Still can not see a video but I am sure I will get that soon.

You are not alone and it looks like I may need to reload my system from
scracth - ugh!
Ok - I get the message Error 3 - tuner not found when it indeed is installed
and working. In my case I have the hauppauge MCE500 installed which was
working exceptionally well until I did yje update by the book. I even
reloaded the drivers to be sure and all is well.
So sequence of events;
Rollup applied - Even though the restart now window was displayed, I
waited until the disk activity settled down. It seems helpsvc was busy
doing something. When the disks because idle - I rebooted
back to the update and applied the critical patch. rebooted again
started MCE and crash city in this sequence:

mscoree.dll is a core component of the .NET runtimes. Apparently, you have
a wrong (old) version of this file on your machine. Try reinstalling the
..NET 1.1 runtimes to fix this.
