Post subject: Recording a show on Dish Network while receiver is in standby mode
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>mediacenter (more info?)

I have MCE running with Dish Network and can record shows with no problem,
but only if the show starts shortly after I turn off my TV. If the TV has
been turned off for a while, the satellite receiver goes into standby mode
and displays a "Dish Network" screen saver. Once I turn off the TV again, I
need to press teh "OK" button on the remote, otherwise I cannot even change
channel. Therefore the next day I have a one hour long recording of the
screen saver... Sad

Is there a way to get the IR Blaster to send a "OK" signal before any
recording? Maybe a "OK followed by a "Cancel" would even be needed, because I
think that if the receiver is NOT in standby mode, pressing the "OK" will
show the channel information. Or is there a simpler solution to this?

Surely I am not the only one who wants to record shows in the middle of the
night on Dish Network...

Thanks,
Benoit

Benoit, I have the same issue. Your post is somewhat old, but i am going to
try to set "timers" on my dish network receiver in conjunction with the shows
i want to record with XP MCE. These "timers" will automatically change the
channel at the appointed time. Kind of a pain but seems like it will work.
I will post agian if this does not work.

I also have the same issue. The timers on the Dish receiver are a lousy work
around to this problem because

Try again. The timers on the Dish box are a lousy work around to this problem
because you have to set a channel to tune to when the timer goes off. This
could screw up a current media center recording.

I am hoping there is some way to get Media Center (or some other IR driver)
to send the IR code for "Select" either periodically or when ever the channel
is changed.
