first drag the shortcut you want into the quick lauch so the annoying arrows
come up.
then
Unlock the taskbar/quick launch bar - by right clicking and uncheck "lock
taskbar"
then just put the cursor over the dottybit next to the quick launch icon and
a double ended arrow appears then click and drag untill all the icons you
want appear

Hello Ken,
I like your idea of docking the QuickLaunch Bar on the left - but how do
I do that? I tried to drag+drop it, but the whole bottom line of bars
(incluing the Start button) moved instead. Also, the QuickLaunch bar still
appeared as horizontal, instead of lining up vertically. Help!

Then you dragged the entire Task Bar, not just the Quick Launch Bar. Make
sure that you click within the Quick Launch Bar before you drag.

-- Thank you Ken,
Yes, I was clicking on onlhy the QuickLaunch toolbar, as you
suggested. I tried it again, from both ends and middle of the QuickLaunch
Toolbar - but the same thing happened. The entire Task Bar, including the
Start button, moved to the left-hand margin. And again, the QuickLaunch
toolbar, in its new position, appeared only as a horizontal list - which
means that when I narrowed it down, only 1 icon showed and the rest were in
the pop-up menu.
I'm not sure, but there may be something wrong with my QuickLaunch
bar. In another post here (earlier today), I asked about another QuickLaunch
problem I'm having: I can no longer widen it, as I could in the past, even
though the "Lock the Toolbar" button is UNchecked. In the past, when I
hovered over the edge of the QuickLaunch bar, a 2-way arrow appeared and I
could widen/narrow it. But a while back (a few months?), that option
disappeared and I can no longer size it at all. Do you think this problem
might be related to the fact that I can't move the QuickLaunch bar
independently of the whole Task Bar?
Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know what's causing that.

1. Right-click on the taskbar and select Toolbar | New Toolbar.
2. Using the Browse go to your current Quick Launch folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch
3. Click on the Quick Launch folder name and click OK
4. Click on the new toolbar on the Taskbar and drag/drop on left of screen
5. Right-click on new toolbar and set/unseet Show Title and/or Show Text
6. Size new toolbar as much width you want.
You can also copy the Quick Launch folder shortcuts to some other new folder
and use that folder for the New Toolbar, and then add as many shortcuts you
want to that folder.
Once performed, you can right click on Quick Launch on Taskbar and select
Close Toolbar.
This will give you more space on the taskbar by removing the Quick Launch
taskbar.

HI Ken,
I tried this but encountered a couple of problems. When I
right-clicked on Toolbar, the list of options, including New Toolbar, were
shaded and I couldn't access them. So I used Windows Explorer to find the
C: address you give me (below), but I couldn't find any option there for New
Toolbar. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
