I recently added our network PCs to a Windows domain.
Once I did that, the power management stopped working correctly. I have the
monitors set to power off after 4 hours, but they actually power off after
about 20 or 30 minutes.
The monitors are not set with any power saver features that I can see, but
even so, all that changed was adding the computers to the domain.
After adding them to the new domain, I logged in as the user with
Administrator privileges and set the screen saver to Marquee with a 20 minute
screen saver timeout and a 4 hour power off for the monitor. >> Stay informed about: Power management not working after joining domain |

Power settings are per user, not per workstation....and for some reason,
limited user accounts can't change the settings. >> Stay informed about: Power management not working after joining domain |

Thank you for your reply.
I changed the power management settings for the user. The user had
administrative privleges when I changed the settings. Once I changed the
power management to power off the monitor after 4 hours, I revoked the
administrative privileges from the user account.
If I log in as the user and examine the power management settings, XP
indicates that the monitor is set to power off after 4 hours. The monitor
powers off after 20 or 30 minutes.

Perhaps it's a blank screensaver.

The screensaver is Marquee, with a custom text message set to Random.

Hmm. And the user is definitely logged in at the time?
Have you checked the BIOS settings for power save? Newer Dells have an
annoying habit of going into slow-mo suspend when nobody's logged in. Just
hazarding a guess, as you've gone through all the obvious stuff.
