Hi,
I'm a first-timer here

I just put in a 160gb hard drive into a dell 110 optiplex.
When I installed windows 98, it partitioned the hardrive to 130gb and left
30gb.
After upgrading to windows xp , I can't ....
1. get rid of the partition
2. extend the partion
3. use the whole 160 gb

Can someone explain what I need to do!
Thanks for you help.

Either use a third party software like Partition Magic whihc should keep the
data intact or boot with an XP CD (with SP1 or later) and delete all
partitions then create one big new one and reformat.

What if you want to shrink a partition that exists with XP on it, so you can
create a new partition?
Do I need to use a program like partition magic?
According to the MS website: When I go into Control Panel > Administrative
Tools > Computer Management I should be able to look under Storage > Disk
Management and then right click the volume I want to shrink and select
"Shrink Volume" but it's not an option.
I think it's because they only have a help section on this for Vista, not XP.
But that brings me to my question... how DO i resize my windows partition
using XP?
Any help is appreciated...

As you guessed you need to use a 3rd-party tool like Partition Magic. The Vista support for
partition resizing is aslo very limited compared to a dedicated product.
