Post subject: Open Containing Folder in Search for Files and Folders doesn't work
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

Hi guys.
As the subject says - I have a problem when clicking on the "Open
Containing Folder" in the right click menu of the "Search Results"
window. Instead of open the folder a window pops up where I have to
choose with which program to open the file/folder. I even could've
managed with that but the checkbox for "Always use the selected
program..." is grayed so it's no use.
I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks.

This suggests a really cool trick.

I have always wanted to change the context menu option from "Open
Containing Folder" to "Explore Containing Folder".

If you place the word "explore" in the "Default" value of the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

THen right clicking on the "Open Containing Folder" actually opens a
new window in "explore" (two pane) view! I suppose if you wanted to,
you could put all sorts of verbs in that value: "sendto", "find",
"logout" etc...
