Buy 8 USB keybords and 8 USB mice, and hope for the best?

What do you mean?

I mean . . .

I want to have one actual CPU but imagine multiple people running programs at the same time off that one box. I know I heard of it I just don't know what the tried and true way is.

So if you have a sales group with 4 cubicals - put in a central pc then run monitors. mice, keyboards to all cubicals - but they see it as there own pc - and can work independantly of each other

You cannot do this with windows. Where ever you herd it from, they must have been talking about Linux/BSD.

I believe you are talking about a server/dumb terminal system. Where you have a central server running windows 2000/2003 server and is connected to a series of dumb terminals.

The dumb terminals typically have similar internals of a pc but no hard drive.

This type of setup is often seen in the corporate world and are usually expensive.

Another way to do it, is to use 5 pc's networked via a router/hub with the main machine running Windows 2000/2003 Server. You would then setup each users machine to access the hard drive/s in the central computer by default.

Hello,

A company called http://www.ncomputing.com/ (nComputing) sells a variety of devices to share one computer with multiple keyboards, monitors, mouses and speakers. I have never used any of their devices, though, and don't know how well they perform or what limitations there may be with their equipment.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky
