Do you have the Karaoke plug-in installed? It has a bug in it that causes
audio problems especially if you're using SPDIF output to an external
receiver.
When I installed this plug-in it screwed up my audio. I only had sound
coming from the centre channel.
I'm sure it is messing up all kinds of microphone and speaker hardware.
Let me know if this helps

Well I'm having some mic issues myself. I have the new Windows Vista Home
Premium. I have a mic that isn't working in chat rooms or chat clients. Sure
it works with my Voice Recognition software that came with this computer. I
even tryed adjusting the volume on the mic, and the boost is all the way up.
I can talk into the mic, and see the voice meter move. But when I go into
chat rooms, or chat clients, and try to use voice the talk buttons are grey.
I even waited for like an hour to see if it was just a connection problem.
Nothing happened! I also tryed different mic slots. I have one in the back,
and one in front still the same issue occurs. The mic worked on my XP with
chat rooms, and chat clients. What can I do about this? Is there some way
around it? Is there a driver I have to install?

I think I have a similar problem. On my old laptop running Win XP I had no
trouble using an external microphone to record messages or use audio chat
features. Now I have an HP Pavilion running MCE 2005, and whether I use the
integrated microphone or my external microphone the recording has a lot of
static/hiss. HP was unable to help, but I've seen several postings online
that lead me to think the problem is with the OS software. For instance, one
of the knowledge base suggestions it to go to the "Voice" tab of the "Sounds
and Audio Devices" under control panel and click the "Advanced" button to
make changes. However on my system the "Advanced" button is grayed out!
Any thoughts or suggestions??

After further research I've concluded that I need to enable the "Microphone
Boost" feature for my microphone input. However, I can not find a way to do
that under XP Media Center 2005, and from what I gathered from other forums
it is not available under Vista either.
Does anyone know of a workaround for this?
