Ian,
Very sorry to hear that ... reason it did not work could be
unfortunately many things.
One thing I can do, though, is email you the exact version of the
mcerepair tool I used, so at least we will know we have used the exact
same thing. Meaning, if it still does not work it will be because of
something else. I copied myself on this note to send it to you tonight,
when
I get back home.
Since it is an exe file it may get rejected by your AV software so
.... you know the drill, I hope; I will rename it with a txt extension,
send it to you, and then, when you get it, you need to save it
somewhere
on your PC and rename it back to the exe extension, then run it.
I have no idea what that exception error means, I have to admit; I've
never seen that before when I used this tool and God knows I have used
it countless times (basically after each Windows update until November
of last year, when I got fed up with other issues and I did a fresh
reinstall).
A couple of things I would suggest though: make sure you are NOT
using a beta version of either WMP 11 or IE7 - those two betas have
given
me trouble before. If you otherwise don't mind, install the final
versions or at least revert to IE6 fully patched. The latter, plus
WMP11
final version is what I have on my computer presently and since I
reinstalled the OS I have not had to run the mcerepair tool (knock on
wood - now
that I said it I betcha I will have to do it soon
Later,
GB
PS: I just emailed you this very same message directly to the address
below and it bounced back as "user unavailable". Any idea why?
