Hi. A couple of brief questions regarding LTO-3 Ultrium 400GB tape on XP Pro
that I hope some brainy person can help me with.

My DLT7000 and SCSI works fine with my XP Pro Intel. A new IBM LTO3 Ultrium
drive runs fine in NovaBackup, but doesn't run with the MS system backup
utility. I could only install the LTO drive as manufacturer ="LTO" and drive
="IBM Ultrium TD3 SCSI sequential device"-which automatically uses MS's
embedded XP LTO driver v5.1.2600.2180. The other option was to install as
manufacturer= IBM Corp" but the actual IBM drivers will not fully install,
probably because their revision history shows that all versions later than
v6.0.5.3 are "Windows XP installation disallowed"

Remote Storage Manager in XP PRO SP2 sees the drive, will eject the media
if requested, but only sees "Unrecognized media"-regardless of tapes being
LTO3 or LTO2- I know the tapes are fine, and still have their servo tracks.
It won't let me create a media pool. (I know that there are drivers and
support for LTO in Server)

0) Is anyone reading this using LTO on XP PRO SP2 with the built in ntbackup
program?
1) Does anybody know why XP installation was disallowed back in 2004 from
version 6.0.5.6 onward?
2) Is there an LTO or LTO3 driver for XP that can update the one included
in XP SP2?
3) does anyone have a driver prior to 6.0.5.6?

....maybe Vista will have updated native support...

Thanks for your help!
