I have Direct TV that runs off of two boxes. The signal runs throughout the
house using the cable jacks in each room. I do not have a set top box hooked
up to each TV yet still get the picture for whatever the box is tuned to. I
can not get a signal - just get static off of channel 3 when I try to
manually set it up. The automatic attempts result in a no signal found. Do I
have to have a Direct TV box hooked directly up to the tuner card to get a
picture? Shouldn't I be able to get a picture on the PC just like what the
TV's that don't have set top boxes connected directly to them? Any
suggestions?

As long as you have manaually(do not use automatic) set up MCE to receive
via antenna or direct cable it should work fine on Channel 3 as you have
stated
Many of the tuners in PC tuner cards do not accept weak signals as well as
most TV does so you may need a signal amplifier and you might want to use of
your TV to insure that the channel 3 signal is in fact on the connection you
are using for the PC.
