Post subject: Improper Shutdown... Now I have a problem

Hello ladies and Gentleman.

I was at a friend's house yesterday and we were in a hurry and i was on his computer and i went to go and shut it down... but, i accidently restarted it. so i waited til it said logging of windows and the screen went black and then i turned off the computer by the outside button.... so i knew if i turned it off while it was in windows something could of happend, thats why i waited til the screen turned black! alright now here is my problem.

He gets on and it boots up but it takes him to a screen that says: "Windows file corrupted windows/system/win32, if you want to repair it, put in the orignal windows disc and press r to repair.

alright, i get his Windows Xp Home edition cd out and put it in...it boots up and it says press any key to boot up disc..i do that, then it takes me into a blue screen and it loads up all the windows files on that disc. after that, it gives me three choices: "Press enter to install Windows Xp, Press R to repair and install Windows Xp files, Press F3 to quit.

I have tried both enter and R....and i get this message ( more like a paragraph) telling me there isn't no hard disk drive for it to install the files on!
Now, basically is it saying there isn't no hard drive? Is the hard drive corrupt now? Can i reconnect the hard drive and hope that the computer picks it up?

last thing, I went into bios and for the Primary IDE master slot..it says not installed.

any help will be appericated. Thanks guys. Very Happy

Perhaps it's falled victim to chip creek. Try unpluging the IDE connector, make sure there is no dust in to plug or on the connector, plug it back in, and check the power connector on the hard drive as well. Also check that when you turn the computer on you can hear the hard drive making a healthy noise (healthy noise = low hum, unhealthy noise = consant *click* *click* *click* *click* or no noise at all)

Hello,

Is the computer's hard disk drive connected to the motherboard through a SATA interface? If so, you will probably need to load the device drivers for the SATA interface via floppy diskette when prompted to press the F6 key early in the boot process in order to install SCSI and RAID controllers.

You can typically download the SATA device drivers files to place on a floppy diskette from the computer or motherboard manufacturer's web site.

Regards,
