I have a WinTV-500 PVR dual tuner card. Attached to this is a Motorola set
top box provided by Comcast. I have the IR cable stuck to the front of the
Motorola STB right where the IR sensor is located. I am getting through the
set up until it looks for the IR hardware and then I get not detected. I have
swapped out the cables just to make sure that the IR control cables aren't
defective. Anybody else having these issues and know of a work around? I also
have a Motorola HDTV box in one of my other rooms and thought of swapping
them just to see if works with that box; however, I find that to be a useless
solution since HD isn't supported in MCE. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks!

The problem is solved... You have to have a DVD Decoder installed. I didn't
realize that one was not installed but once I did this the problem corrected
itself. Hope this helps anyone else out there having the same issue.

Please pardon me for asking, however what does a DVD Decoder have to do with
the IR sensor being recognized by the PC? I, too, am receiving the same
error message that the IR hardware is not being found. Where can I find the
DVD Decoder please?
Thanks,
Hal

Just setup the TV in media Center & say that you are using 'antenna'. You will not then need a
remote but of course you will only be able to view & record whatever the person who has the digibox
remote has decided.

Did you buy the Media center ready made or did you roll your own? If the latter then you will need
an MPEG2/DVD decoder to watch TV or indeed to watch DVD. If this isn't a DIY job then whoever you
bought it from will have installed an MPEG2/DVD decoder.
