FireWire affecting USB

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with my USB mp3 player. I can not add songs or delete
songs from the mp3 player. I ran the mp3's diagnostic program and here is a
section of the error that I am receiving:

VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller, PCI bus 0, device 16, function 4. Device
is working properly.

No IEEE 1394 Host Controller found.

I am really at a loss here, if I recall correctly from my Data
Communications and Hardware and Operating System classes correctly, FireWire
and USB are two different devices. My mp3 player is a USB device, not a
FireWire device. I never had this problem before, which is why I am confused
and do not know what to do to resolve this issue. I tried to contact the
manufacturer of my mp3 player, but they are not being very helpful.

I would like to also point out that I can read and write to my Lexar jump
drives just fine, without incident. All eight of my USB ports are working
properly. [They are USB 2.0 ports.]

When I try to locate the IEEE 1394 FireWire device in Device Manager, they
are not visible and they used to be visible in Device Manager.

My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2. Am I safe to presume
that my problem is both a hardware and software problem, or is it a hardware
or software issue? And how can I go about to resolve the issue? I tried to
install the IEEE 1394 drivers, but Windows will not let me, Windows tells me
that no drivers can be found. [I have administrator rights to the computer
since I am the only user.]

Do you truly know if you have a IEEE 1394 / Firewire host controller in your
PC (the Firewire connector is a unique connection and not USB compatible.)

Have you ever installed the VIA chipset drivers? If so, you may need the USB
filter drivers.

What is the make/model of your MP3 player? Someone else may have already gone
thorough this "ordeal" before and have a solution for you?
