External USB Storage device recignuzed as a disk drive !!!..

I have purchased a 80 g external drive (StoreJet 2.5) and when I plug and
play my system loads the device as a disk drive .
When I access the device the system prompts for a disk to be inserted and
will not allow me to access the drive ??
Whe plug and played on my lap top the device works fine. ?
Please help beofre I go completely around the bend !!

This is a guess, it may be allocating the same drive letter as a previous
CDROM. Try going to disk management and with the drive plugged in change the
drive letter for the USB drive. Right click "my computer" and select
"manage" then go to "disk management" you should be able to see which is the
USB drive, right click it and select "change drive letter and path".
