Dish works to make sure that nothing works with their service or equipment.
The real reason is not copyright but is because Dish loses money. Remember,
they charge extra for recording, multiple receivers, their little portable
devices, etc. The copyright excuse is BS, it is Dish's loss of revenue that
they are trying to protect. Imagine if 10 million customers quit paying them
$5/mo for DVR and $5/mo per extra receiver.
I've been researching and think I'm going to switch to Directv. I'd prefer
using the serial or possibly the USB to control the channel changes on the
receivers.
