This may be a silly question..
I have an MCE box is in the livingroom and I also have a "work" XP box in
another room.
Can I use remote desktop (rdp) into the MCE box without ruining the "MCE
experience" for those ppl in the livingroom? Just log in with another
account? Doesn't seem to work? (The MCE application shuts down?)
Admittedly I haven't tinkered alot..

Windows XP only supports 1 user logon at a time; so you can either have it
logged on at the console (i.e running MCE and displaying on your TV) or you
can RDP into the box from another machine in which case the console will
screen lock and you will lose your TV display.
However, there is a hack which replaces termserv.dll with a pre-release
version of this file which allows more than one RDP connection to the box.

Instead you could try VNC from www.realvnc.com.

I'm sure this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway... replacing
system files with random files downloaded off the Internet is generally not
a good idea as it may cause bad things to happen/stuff to break.

That will allow you to remote control the console of the PC - which will
affect the display on the TV.

But it's not intrusive - the remote PC will keep its display. However, I
doubt you'd get video transfer (i.e., live TV). You should get the 10-foot
interface OK.

Agreed..
but why can't I run multiple user sessions in parallel on the box?
I can do that quite easily with my other operating system... >> Stay informed about: Connect to the MCE box with remote desktop/RDP..? |

As much of a dog I am....I did that (a 100% real hack..indeed) and so
far it works *exactly* as I wanted. Important thing is that nobody in
the MCE living-room notices what I'm doing..
I know, I know..I said what I was already.. >> Stay informed about: Connect to the MCE box with remote desktop/RDP..? |
