After we attached my mother's printer to her new computer, her new
computer always has a window when it boots up saying "Please wait
while Windows installs PSC1200 Series".

Then her HP 1200 printer works fine.

Why should this happen every time she boots up?

How was it installed? As in did you follow the setup instructions or
just plug it in and follow the found new hardware? If the later, it may
be fixed by completely uninstall it and removing the hardware and then
installing with the setup disc that came with it. If you already did
that and it's still doing it and it is a parallel connected printer, we
will look for a KB fix.

It's connected via a USB port. I'm not sure how it was installed -
possibly both ways.

Then completely clean out the install and do it as per the HP setup
instruction.
