Post subject: Black/Blank Screen on Media Center Start Up
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>mediacenter (more info?)

Hello everyone,

I have seen a few posts here with the same problem but none seem to
have a solution (or atleast a solution that applies to me.)

I have a HP Pavilion zd8000 custom built notebook. It has a 3 ghz P4 HT
1 GB of Ram and an ATI Mobility x600.

Now I was using Media Center all fine and dandy and then one day it
stopped working, meaning that when I opened Media Center I got a black
screen when connected to an external monitor. Now if I take it out of
full screen mode (by either reducing the window size, or hiting alt-tab
or ctrl-esc) I can see Media center. My TV Tuner (which is external) is
not even connected and this happends. So I reformated my HDD
reinstalled windows did Windows Update untill I was blue in the face
and had all the updates. Went to HP Support website and downloaded all
the drivers. And it was still Black. I changed setting after setting
after setting and it was still black. So I called HP after talking to 5
people in a four hour period no one seemed to be able to help, not many
seemed that computer literate anyways, so now I beg of the MVP's and
the very knowledgable on this newsgroup to help. Any ideas, any
sudgestions, should I just run it over in my car and send it back and
get a new one ($350 accidental damage extended warranty.)

Thanks for any help you can give.

Kris
