OK, I can now confirm, Vista Media Center appears to ignore the orientation
flag on a jpeg photo. However, it seems that the sidebar picture viewer
widget _does_ use it, as I've never seen a sideways photo on the sidebar.
I went to see if the orientation flag was set, and couldn't find a way to
view the EXIF header (not in PSP 7, not in Microsoft's Digital Image Suite,
not in Explorer). Finally found a free program to let me view it but haven't
installed it yet. I know my newest camera sets this flag but don't know if
any of our earlier ones did...
