Internet Explorer is a crucial, integrated component
of Windows XP and cannot be removed. It must be
used to download updates from the Windows Update
web site.

It cant be uninstalled. You must have it in order to get updates from
Windows Update.
MSIE is tightly integrated into the OS, and removing it will make your OS
unstable.

Let sleeping dogs lie. If you don't like it, don't use it but let it be.
Uninstalling it causes endless trouble that you don't really want to make for
yourself.

No -- it's part of the operating system.

The most you can do is install a different browser and make it your
default, but IE will still be there. And you can use only IE to
download Windows updates.

Well, that's only sort of true. Actually, Bill G won't let any other
browser download the updates, by detecting what browser that you use.
Otherwise any browser would work, so its NOT an INTEGRATED component,
just like the older versions of windows, 95 through ME were not true
operating systems, as proven in the anti-trust trial, they were just
newer Graphical Interfaces, over DOS, which was the operating system,
but Bill didn't want to allow anyone else to sell the DOS operating
system.
