Alan

I uninstalled the usb keyboard and removed a program called eraser. I also
removed some of the other users in the control userpasswords2 application.
I removed ACTuser, and ASPnet. I am using log in without password too. I
like your DTS-L site too - and Kelly's greate corner. Very valuable
resources for me in future.

Now my sys info is as follows:

Use Msconfig as a troubleshooter, selectively disable items and reboot
until you find the cause.

Alan,

I have tried all of the items in the start-up group.

Is it possible that this relates to a user profile? I have found that
the error doesnt occur if i use control userpasswords2 and i make it
that a person (me) has to log on. This removes the error - however
when I make it that a user doesnt have to log on - the error appears to
come back. I might try to create a new user - and give them admin
rights and then look to delete or rename my old profile.

This is a perplexing problem - and to me it defies logic - i can
reboot, log off, restart, shutdown - and all is well - but if the date
changes in the meantime then the problem resurfaces!! Maybe that is an
observation rather than a co-relation but i am stumped logic wise.

If it is relates to user profiles, then I cannot help.
Nobody else has ever used a computer of mine, so I have no need of
profiles.

Hi there,
I believe the problem resides in the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software. Try to configure this software so that it uses the Microsoft Client.
Then reboot.
Your problem should disappear.
Hope it helps,
Maurizio

Intel PROSet/Wireless Software is the problem. When trying to uninstall, you should be able to run the repair utility. That should take care of your problem.

G'day,

Just to let you guys know ive just completed this excercise and found
the culprit to be the spectrum24 event monitor, i disabled it in
msconfig but without it i cannot use my wireless! I have the same
problem with 2 other laptops as well, the only commonality between the
three ( 2 dells & a hp) is that they intel based, use novell client to
logon and have mcafee antivirus. I have spoken to dell and hp and intel
to see if they can source the problem, but they have not been any help.
Ill keep going until i can find what it is conflicting with but it's
going to be a lot of reboots before i do!

Regards

Cameron

Nope this hasn't worked for me, i tried rolling back the drivers to the
original and it still happens.... one thing i found quite peculiar was
when i installed it from home without being connected to the network
the pop went away, once i came back in the office and logged on to the
novell network it came back.... it must conflict when some network
services are started at the same time.... i guess i will have to wait
till intel release a newer version to fix the old one...
