Spybot Search & Destroy very noisy

Running XP Home SP2. When I run Spybot 1.3 on one of my systems, the hard drive sounds like a machine gun firing when it is searching the files. I stop it, because I believe this could ruin the drive. I reinstalled it and that doesn't solve it. Any suggestions?

Run a CHKDSK and then a DEFRAG on your drive.. It may be just a noisy
drive, could be a bad one - more likely just noisy..

What name-brand is it?
