Can anyone assist? I tried to install my Xerox printer
(about 4 years old)on my 6-month old Dell Computer. I had
been using a newer Epson printer, but wanted to use the
Xerox as well. I downloaded the new drivers for XP from
the Xerox web site. When I tried to load them, I received
an error message. Since then, I have had problems with the
Epson I was already using - now it does not work at all and
no printers show up in the printer settings window. When I
try to re-install the Epson, I receive a message ("Spooler
Subsystem Application encountered a Problem")and that the
computer cannot complete the operation. So, now I cannot
print from the Dell at all.
I have gone into My Computer, Manage, and Services and
restarted the spooler. However, I still cannot re-install
the Epson, and the spooler application comes up as stopped
each time I restart the computer. I have tried restarting
from the last good configuration and the Device Rollback
feature - neither has worked. I don't know what else to
try except to reload the entire OS.
Does anyone know of a possible solution? >> Stay informed about: Spooler Subsystem Application encountered a Problem |

It sounds like both vendor device drivers are using or attempting to use the
same resource at the same time.
I'd recommend starting from the beginning again:
1. disconnect both printers form the computer
2. reboot your computer and make sure no printer programs are running when
you start-up (check Task Manager and close anything printer, Epson, or Xerox
related)
2. uninstall any software that applied to the Epson and Xerox printers
3. reboot
What I don't know is what your printers are (models names, connector type -
USB or parallel, etc.), what applications you were trying to print from,
what the repro steps are, and so on.
Just to get a printer functioning, install just one of the devices and see
if that will at least let you print.(If it doesn't - then when you
uninstalled both devices previously - one or both of them didn't really
uninstall - which, unfortunately, is common. From there you would have to
search your registry or hard drive for either Xerox or Epson files)
From here, you can try again to see if the problem was a glitch, or you can
install the Xerox first and then the Epson and see if that would make a
difference.
good luck!
