I cannot successfully open any folder, drive, My Computer, etc., etc. It
doesn't matter whether I double click an icon, select "open" from the right
mouse button menu, or any other method; it always fails. What happens,
specifically, is that the folder opens for an instant (maybe a tenth of a
second), then the entire desktop goes completely blank except for wallpaper
(all icons disappear), and after a second or two the icons return. I suspect
I have a virus or hijacker, but none of my tools find anything. I have run
Norton Antivirus, Spybot, and Ad-Aware and none of them report finding
anything. All are completely up to date.

Any insight, or better yet, suggestions for repairing this, will be
gratefully appreciated. I am running XP with SP 2. Oh, one other important
fact: it does not fail in Safe Mode.

You posted this message a while ago, and I don't see any responses .... I
have the same problem and was wondering if you managed to find a solution? I
am getting frustrated keep booting up and hoping to click an icon that
functions before they all disappear.

Let me know if you had any luck. Thank you very much.
