I want to migrate data from my old computer (9Cool to my new computer (XP) via
serial cable. To do that I need to create a "Wizard Disk" for my old
computer. I'm trying to use "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" on my new
computer to create the Wizard CD, but that program doesn't recognize my
CD-RW/DVD drive (ESmile. The dropdown list used to select the output device
includes choices for only F, G, H, and I, my 8-in-1 media drives. How can I
get it to write to my CD on drive E?

Thanks

Apparently, my question statement was incomplete. I need to create a "Wizard
Disk" for my old computer because I don't have an XP CD. XP was installed by
the manufacturer of my system and they didn't provide an XP CD.

Do both systems have a floppy drive?
Create the Wizard disk on the floppy diskette.

Otherwise - I am fairly certain Windows XP does not have the capability (or
at least F.A.S.T doesn't) to create a Wizard CD on its own.. Perhaps a
Wizard Floppy disk which you could create a CD from using a third party
tool..

Your best bet would be to borrow a friends Windows XP CD, if you have one
with one..

I am having the same problem, pre-installed XP, no original cd and it does
not even give me the option of selecting to make a copy! Did you find a
solution? If so an answer would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Michael.

I am in the same boat. I know this is a couple months down the line; have you
found a solution? I also tried to network the computers together but was
unable to create a Network Setup disk. The message was that the Setup Wizard
"has detected that this computer has no floppy drives or other removable
media", but it has a factory-installed DVD=/-RW CD-RW drive.
I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you.

I realize this may be rather a bit late to help you out, but I have just
found out what your problem is (I had the same problem and a kindly soul
asnwered it for me). Unfortunately, the F.A.S.T. wizard DOES NOT SUPPORT
creating a wizard disc using a CD or a DVD. You can only use a floppy disk
or some other type of removable media, such as a flash drive. This can be a
real pain if your new PC does not have a floppy drive and your old PC does
not support USB 2.0.

As far as I can tell, if you are migrating from Windows 95, your only choice
is to use a floppy disk to contain the wizard. If you are migrating from
Windows 98 first edition, you can use a flash drive, but you have to download
a generic USB 2.0 driver for W98 from the Internet (Microsoft doesn't have
any). If you search on these newsgroups, you can find a link to a site which
has the required driver.
