The same can happen with Usenet postings.

Try copying the full link into makeashorterlink or tinyurl, and send
that instead, along with the non-wrapping link in full.

The difference between the two is that makeashorterlink -

http://makeashorterlink.com/index.php

has an intermediate stage informing the user of the final address
before proceeding

whereas tinyurl links straight to the target page

http://tinyurl.com/

and so can be open to mischief, as it can give the recipient a
nasty surprise.

Do the links "break" when you read your copy of the RichText/HTML message
found in Sent Items folder, or in such a message you send to yourself? If
not, the problem isn't on your end. (Chances are that your recipients are
reading all messaes in Plain Text.)
