as usual; thought that the Ozzie could not spell
the F... word so i looked it up:
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=fud
" <jargon> An acronym invented by Gene Amdahl
after he left IBM to found his own company: "FUD is the
fear, uncertainty, and doubt that IBM sales people instill
in the minds of potential customers who might be considering
[Amdahl] products." "

Yep; in the 1960's 70 80's the Mantra was that
" No one ever got fired for buying IBM"
even thou the Amdahl were faster/cheaper ..
Even Now many believe Only Real Computing
can be done on the Big Iron even though some
kids 4 GigaHertz processor with 2 GB ram and
400 GB disk for under $1000 is more capable than
most Big Iron ..

we use term "Foobar" ie
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=fubar
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=foobar
ie f..... u(p) b(eyond) a(ll) Belief ..

or snafu
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=snafu
s(ituation) n(ormal) a(ll) f(.....) u(p)

I can't spell, by my Mozilla mail client spell checker can - even if it does
continually try to 'Americanise' everything, and I have to keep overriding it !

eg: note 'Americanise' (I know - not a word) is with a 's' NOT 'z'; and it is
pronounced 'zed' NOT 'zee' !!
