First of all, "File Sharing" is a misnomer -- you share folders, not
individual files. When you enable File and Printer sharing, you just make it
possible. You still have to manually, individually share a printer or a
folder (in their Properties) for them to actually be shared. Jon means to
make sure that at least one folder or printer is shared on each machine.
To check the IP addresses, use WINIPCFG in Win9x and IPCONFIG from a Command
Prompt in WinXP (Start>Run, type in CMD then <Enter>). The machines should
have the same IP except the last set of digits. Make sure that the subnet
mask is the same, also.
If still having problems, post back the data from the WINIPCFG and IPCONFIG
results.
