You did not tell us whether Win98 starts OK (with
this error message) or fails to start at all.

Solution # 1 = Simplify, e.g.
(a) Reboot with no AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS.
(Rename both something else.)
(b) Start in Safe Mode (without Windows drivers) by
holding down either Ctrl or F8 during reboot. You can
then review MSCONFIG to see what apps have been
configured to start at Startup.

Click Start> Run, type: msconfig
|Click OK|
Click the Startup tab, expand the columns so you can read them, and look for any
entries that mention Fontview.exe
If found, uncheck that item and click OK all the way out, then restart and see if
the message still appears.

Take note of what program is mentioned in that entry, as that will be the installed
program that has mistakenly added fontview.exe to its startup routine. That program
may need to be uninstalled or reinstalled, or the entry simply removed.
Fontview.exe is a valid and important Windows file, so don't remove or otherwise
mess with it.

If you need help finding the entry, click Start>Run, type: msinfo32
|Click OK|
In the left pane of the System Information window, click the + sign to expand the
"Software Environment" category.
In the left pane, click to select "Startup Programs"....they will appear in a list
on the right.
Press Ctrl-A on the keyboard, which will highlight everything in the list on the
right.
Press Ctrl-C to copy the list to the 'clipboard'.
Open a reply to this message, click in the body of the message and press Ctrl-V to
paste the list from the clipboard to the message, and post back to this thread.
